Ever Tried Italian Almond Tea?

December 11, 2008

Almonds are a favorite.  Dilmah offers an Italian Almond Tea.  A medium strength Ceylon tea, fragrant and with a slightly sweet almond finish. Mid-elevation Ceylon Tea from Dombagastalawa Estate fused with the bitter-sweet flavor of Italian Almond.

The slightly malty Ceylon Tea produces a deep amber infusion which is envloped by a delicious aroma of amaretto. The tea has a nutty, sweet edge with a rich body. Ideal taken with sweet cakes and pastries, or for something different, as a t-Shakem brewed strong cooled and poured over vanilla ice cream.

Learn About Earl Grey

October 15, 2008

If you are fan of Earl Grey tea, you are not alone. Capt Picard, Batman and Winnie the Pooh’s friend Piglet all drink Earl Grey tea. Earl Grey is the second most popular type of tea (behind English Breakfast).

As British Prime Minster from 1830 to 1834, Earl Charles Grey is credited with developing the tea that bears his name. Earl Grey, according to lore, received the tea as a gift when his envoy saved a Chinese official’s son from drowning.

Earl Grey is black tea flavored with bergamot oil. The oil has a citrus flavor, similar to orange blossoms. The oil is extracted from the peel of the bergamot orange, a small pear-shaped sour orange cultivated today mostly in southern Italy.

Traditionally, Earl Grey applied only to black tea. Now, Earl Grey applies to green or white teas and describes any tea flavored with bergamot oil.

Adventurous Tea Drinker? Try Ice Wine Tea

October 14, 2008

Consider yourself an adventurous tea drinker? Then, try Ice Wine tea. Ice Wine tea is made with premium high grown tea from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) infused with natural and Ice Wine flavors.

To make Ice Wine, Vidal or Riesling grapes are left on the vine until after the first frost hits, usually in late November. The grapes are picked on freezing cold nights when the temperature is less than 17 degree F or -8 degrees C.

At this temperature, the frozen grapes are as hard as marbles and during pressing, water is driven out as shards of ice. This leaves a highly concentrated juice very high in acids, sugars and aromatics, which are the required elements for perfect Ice Wine.

Mango Tea from Taylors of Harrogate

October 13, 2008

Mango is a great fruit and is even better as a tea. But, if you are going to buy a Mango Tea, make sure it is a black tea. A fruit like Mango requires a black tea to stand up to it. In our opinion, Mango herbal teas are not as good.

Taylors of Harrogate, a tea company from England, makes a very good Mango tea. Taylors Mango Tea comes in a box of 20 individually wrapped tea bags.

Taylors Mango is made of black tea from Indonesia blended with natural mango. The tea is inspired by the Chinese, who blend their teas with the essences of fruits and flowers. Taylors Mango is light and refreshing with the flavor of mango. It is best enjoyed on its own or sweetened with sugar or honey.

Did Earl Grey Really Exist?

September 25, 2008

Earl Grey Tea is the second most popular variety of tea, just behind English Breakfast. But, was Earl Grey a real person?
